Understanding the difference between family medicine and internal medicine
Family medicine doctors can treat newborns, children, adolescents and adults for common conditions and acute illnesses. However, internal medicine doctors, or internists, typically serve adults and offer preventive health education, medical screenings and assistance with lifestyle modifications. Both types of doctor provide similar services and high-quality care.
In either case, when you visit one of our family or internal medicine doctors, you will check-in with your overall health. You'll also benefit from continuing communication with our clinicians and ongoing education about where you're at on your healthcare journey. This helps us provide you with the information you need to take an active role in your healthcare.
